Fundraising for the Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) Organization

Baltimore’s status as a sanctuary city means that the state of Maryland welcomes hundreds of immigrants every year. However, despite this status, the thousands of unaccompanied migrant children that seek Baltimore as their home often have no solutions or resources to face the inequities of the justice system. Too often, they are survivors of gang violence, gender-based violence, or have suffered due to the abuse or neglect of a parent.

As such, 50% of children who enter the US alone also have to face immigration court without legal representation. Therefore, organizations like Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) are vital to help support these children. Pro-bono lawyers work tirelessly to ensure that everyone has the ability to secure legal representation, and volunteers ensure that these children have access to essential services.

The Student Justice Alliance is proud to announce our new fundraising campaign in partnership with the Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) organization. As a student-led group focused on legal topics and civic engagement, we believe strongly in KIND's mission to provide legal representation for unaccompanied migrant children. These vulnerable young migrants face huge legal challenges in navigating the complex immigration system without a parent or legal guardian by their side. KIND helps protect their rights and ensure no child faces immigration court alone.

Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) is a leading NGO providing legal representation and holistic support to unaccompanied migrant and refugee children. Founded in 2008, KIND has offices across the U.S., Mexico, and Europe partnering with pro bono lawyers, NGOs, and governments to ensure no child faces immigration proceedings alone. In addition to legal services, KIND provides psychosocial support like medical care, mental health services, and education access. KIND works globally to address root causes of child migration, protect children during journeys, and connect repatriated children to essential services.

By raising funds for KIND, the Student Justice Alliance aims to directly aid their vital work providing pro bono legal services to these children in need. With KIND's help, these young migrants have a better chance of finding safety, being reunited with family, and accessing the legal protections they deserve.

Even a small donation can make a big difference in upholding children's rights and providing access to justice. Visit our fundraising page to learn more and to support our cause. Together, we can support some of the most vulnerable young people seeking refuge.
